Jordan's king calls for China to exercise influence in resolving Syrian crisis

Source : Fox News

BEIJING – Jordan's King Abdullah is calling on China to exercise its influence to help resolve the conflict in Syria.

Abdullah made his appeal in his opening remarks at a meeting Wednesday with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a state visit to China. Abdullah praised relations between the two countries and said they shared a commitment to promoting progress on global issues of concern.

Abdullah then referred to the Syria conflict specifically, saying China was in a position to use its influence as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and a "friend of Jordan and the Middle East."

Beijing has called for a political settlement to the more than two-year-old conflict in Syria and joined Russia in blocking moves at the United Nations that could lead to the regime's removal.

Dialogue only way to settle Palestine-Israel issue: Chinese UN envoy

Source : Xinhua | English.news.cn

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- China said here Wednesday that dialogue and negotiations remain the only way to settle the Palestine-Israel dispute, and called for early resumption of the peace talk between the two sides.

"The question of Palestine-Israel constitutes the core of the Middle East peace process," Li Baodong, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, told a Security Council open debate on the Middle East.

"China has always advocated that the parties concerned should resolve their dispute through political negotiations on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, the principle of Land for Peace, the Arab Peace Initiative and the Middle East Peace Roadmap so as to eventually lead to the establishment of an independent state of Palestine and peaceful coexistence between the two states of Palestine and Israel," Li said.

China welcomes and supports all measures which could help break the deadlock of Palestine- Israeli peace talks and push forward a renewed dialogue between the two sides, Li noted.

"China is always firmly opposed to settlement constructions by Israel in Occupied Palestine territories in East Jerusalem and the West Bank of the Jordan River," Li said, voicing China's serious concern over Israel's suspension of transfers of tax payments to Palestine

"We call on Israel, who is in a stronger position, to stop the building of settlements, to lift the blockade on Gaza and to release Palestinian prisoners. We also urge Israel to take measures to remove obstacles to the resumption of peace talks," he urged.

China supports the endeavor of the Palestinian people to establish, on the basis of the 1967 border; an independent state of Palestine with full sovereignty and with East Jerusalem as its capital, the ambassador noted.

"An independent state of Palestine, which is the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, is the basis and precondition to achieve peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine," Li said. "Palestine's successful bid to be recognized as a UN non- member observer state is a positive step on the road of establishing itself as an independent state."

Deeply worried by the long halt of the peace talks between Palestine and Israel, China hopes the international community increase its sense of responsibility and urgency for advancing the Middle East peace process, Li added.

China urges substantial progress in Palestinian-Israeli peace talks

Source : Xinhua | English.news.cn

China on Monday urged Palestine and Israel to adopt concrete measures, start peace negotiations at an early date and make substantial progress.

China's Permanent Representative to the UN Li Baodong made the statement while addressing an open Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

China is deeply worried about the long-standing stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks and also concerned about the economic and humanitarian difficulties faced by the Palestinian people, Li said.

"China urges Palestine and Israel to adopt practical measures, remove obstacles to the peace talks in order to seek an early restart of the talks and achieve substantial progress," he said.

"Israel should assume the responsibility of taking the first step," said the Chinese ambassador. "W urge Israel to immediately halt the building of the settlement, lift the blockade on Gaza, release detained Palestinians and improve their medical and living conditions and actively coordinate the international community in peace making efforts so as to create conditions for re-launching peace talks with Palestine."

The international community should increase its sense of responsibility and urgency for advancing the Middle East peace process and work actively to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table for building mutual trust, Li noted.

"China hopes the Quartet on the Middle East will play a positive role and come up as soon as possible with a concrete proposal for resuming the peace talks between Palestine and Israel, " he said.

As for the situation in Syria, Li said that China is opposed to any solution to the Syrian crisis imposed by the outside forces or pushing for a so-called "regime change."

"The political settlement is the only viable way out for defusing the crisis in Syria," he said. "The priority is to stop as quickly as possible the terrorist and violent activities in all forms, stop all practices that encourage and connive resort to military means and to start a political transition led by the Syrian people."

China calls upon all parties in Syria and the international community to coordinate and support th UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi in his mediation efforts for seeking political solution to the Syrian crisis, Li added.

The Tug-of-war over the South China Sea

The tug-of-war over the South China Sea is seen mainly as a struggle among rival claimants -China, Taiwan and several South-East Asian states -for control of valuable fisheries as well as sea bed oil, natural gas and mineral resources. China's claim to about 80 per cent of the 3.5 million square kilometre sea and its hundreds of atolls, rocks and reefs, has also alarmed outside seafaring and trading nations, including the United States, Australia and Japan. They regard the South China Sea as an international maritime highway with free navigation for seaborne trade, unimpeded movement of naval vessels, and unfettered over-flight for military aircraft. But recent developments in China's nuclear weapons program suggest there is another important dimension to China's increasing assertiveness in enforcing its claimed jurisdiction in the semi-enclosed sea: protecting a new generation of nuclear-powered submarines armed with atomic warheads and based at Sanya on China's Hainan Island. Okazaki Institute in Tokyo special research fellow Tetsuo Kotani says, ''Without understanding the nuclear dimension of the South China Sea disputes, China's maritime expansion makes little sense.'' One of the new generation subs was first spotted by a commercial satellite at Sanya in 2008. It was tied up to a pier that analysts said was China's first and so far only demagnetising facility for submarines. Demagnetisation is conducted before deployment to remove residual magnetic fields in the metal of a sub to make it harder to detect by hostile submarines, surface ships and anti-submarine aircraft. Initially, these new generation Chinese subs and the nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles they could launch while submerged would be able to target potential adversaries in the Asia-Pacific and US bases in the region. Eventually, with longer-range intercontinental missiles, they could cover the whole of the US from launch points in the deep waters of the South China Sea without having to venture too far from their rock shelter tunnels bored into a mountain that forms part of the Sanya naval base for China's South Sea Fleet. . This would give China a more effective deterrent against nuclear attack, one that operated from under the sea in addition to land-based nuclear missiles. In recent years, China has built up a relatively small but increasingly impressive arsenal of approximately 140 nuclear ballistic missiles either concealed in silos or mounted on special launch vehicles and moved around to different hiding places on land. Each carries a single nuclear warhead. But earlier this month, a newspaper controlled by the ruling Chinese Communist Party reported that China was developing the capability to do what Russia and the US have the technology to do -put multiple warheads on its intercontinental ballistic missiles, each capable of hitting different targets. This could greatly increase the number of China's operational nuclear weapons and overwhelm any missile defence system. At the same time, China is building a fleet of new JIN-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), known as Type-094. Two are in operation, a third is under construction and may already have been launched, and at least two more are expected to be built. Meanwhile, China is hoping to complete testing of the JL-2 nuclear-tipped missile for the Type-094 sub, which can carry 12 of the missiles. The US Defence Department's annual report to Congress in May on China's armed forces and military strategy noted that the while the JL-2 program had faced repeated delays, it ''may reach initial operating capability'' within the next two years, giving the Chinese Navy "caredible sea-based nuclear'' deterrent. In addition to adding a nuclear dimension to China's interests in the South China Sea, having a sea-based nuclear deterrent may pose serious control problems for the Central Military Commission which supervises the country's nuclear arsenal. The commission and the Chinese Navy have no experience in operating SSBNs in either peacetime or during a crisis. Yet remaining submerged and out of communication for lengthy periods is essential if SSBNs are to remain undetected. So for the foreseeable future, China's land-based nuclear missile force is expected to be the mainstay of the country's deterrent and retaliatory strike capability against the continental US or other faraway targets. But that will be cold comfort for any regional adversary of China that might soon be targeted by a new SSBN fleet armed with nuclear ballistic missiles. Moscow to react to Asian missile defense

Via RT.com Published: 07 September, 2012, 15:04 X-Band Radar (SBX) (AFP Photo) Russia has expressed its concern over American plans to deploy a new missile defense shield in Southeast Asia. "The continuing growth of the US potential in what we call the Far East –the Asia-Pacific region –does not go unnoticed in Russia," Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at a nonproliferation conference in Moscow. “We are closely following what is happening between the USA and its allies in Asia.” According to the diplomat, “important events” are unfolding in the region and “a lot has already been achieved,” cites Interfax. Moscow’s concerns about the situation arise from the technology involved, as well as the “geography and the US capability to deploy these assets in different locations.” It is important that Washington eases these concerns. Otherwise, “there is a set of measures worked out by the Russian leadership,” Ryabkov noted. Earlier, it was reported that Washington was planning to expand its missile defense in Asia in response to threats from North Korea and to counter China’s growing missile capabilities. Ryabkov noted. Earlier, it was reported that Washington was planning to expand its missile defense in Asia in response to threats from North Korea and to counter China’s growing missile capabilities. The buildup could include an early-warning radar system on a southern Japanese island and possibly another one in Southeast Asia. These two new radars would supplement the one already installed in Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan in 2006. The US global missile defense shield –in particular its European sector –has long been a stumbling block in the relations between Moscow and Washington. Russia worries that the planned system may pose a threat to its national security. The US has so far refused to provide legally-binding guarantees that the European missile defense assets would not be targeted against Russia. “The US missile defense system –is surely one of the key issues on today’s agenda because it involves Russia’s vital interests,” President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with RT. The differences on the issue can only be solved if both sides accept as an axiom that they are “reliable partners and allies for each other.” That would mean the parties “jointly do missile threat assessments and control this defense system together,” Putin said. The president stressed that Russia had done what it could and offered to work on the system together. However, the American partners are “refusing to go along.” Moscow is set to continue the dialogue on the matter, he stressed. “But naturally, as our American partners proceed with developing their own missile defense we shall have to think of how we can defend ourselves and preserve the strategic balance,” Putin added. In November last year, then-President Dmitry Medvedev said d Russia could place offensive weaponry on its borders with Europe as one possible measure against the deployment of American elements of missile defense shield in the region.

U.S., Israeli navies hold joint Med maneuvers in tense times

English.news.cn 2012-08-20 04:31:48 JERUSALEM, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) --Israeli and American naval counterparts spent the last week holding a joint search-and-rescue exercises in the Mediterranean Sea, which included live fire and seaborne helicopters landings. The "Reliant Mermaid" drill also tested the U.S. Navy's destroyer-mounted Aegis-missile defense system, which, theoretically, could defend Israel against Iranian missiles. However, the Americans were quick to point out that the annual drill -which, while not held for the last three years -was unconnected with the escalating psychological war of nerves between Israel and Iran. "Reliant Mermaid is a regularly scheduled exercise and is not associated with, or a reaction to any real world events," a Navy Public Affairs Office spokesman said. Between 2000 and 2009, this type of exercise was conducted annually, with another participant -the Turkish navy.

However, the drill was postponed following the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident, in which Israeli commandos battled and killed nine armed Turkish protesters, who were trying to break a maritime blockade over the Gaza Strip. Both parties, however, summarized the drill as a success and said it bettered military ties between the countries' navies. "This was a successful exercise which strengthened the bonds between the U.S. and Israeli navies and increased our ability to work together as a team," said American Commanding Officer David A. Bretz. "It was really great to get to see the differences between our navy and the U.S.," Israeli Navy Cpl. Niv Bar-Ilan told The Jerusalem Post. Lauding his American swabbie counterparts, Bar-Ilan said, "We' re very appreciative of the crew's hospitality and thank them for teaching us their individual jobs on board."

Syria at the mercy of the west's "Ministers of Terrorism"

Syria at the Mercy of the West'sl "Ministers of Terrorism"

Murder, sabotage, bribery, contract killings --and that’s just the behavior of Western political leaders and their Arab allies. Forget the fancy titles, manners and clothes --ongoing violence in Syria shows that the foreign policy of these powers is being conducted by terrorists and thugs in high offices. Which let’s one glimpse what level of barbarity is being perpetrated by the Western terror army, running amok in the streets and villages of Syria.

The latest display of criminality in high office is the call by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius for the “smashing” of Syria and the killing of its president, Bashar al-Assad. The words may have been spoken with an eloquent French accent, but their practical meaning has all the savagery of cold-blooded bludgeoning. What we are seeing is a descent into barbarism and an open embrace of international lawlessness --by the same governments that appoint themselves to lecture the rest of the world on the principles of democracy and human rights. Reports and videos, showing that the Western-backed mercenaries of the so-called Free Syrian Army are bolstered by al-Qaeda brigades and other terrorists, have been greeted with barely veiled glee in Washington and European capitals. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice have pointedly refused to condemn the surge in bombing atrocities across Syria that have accompanied the influx of terrorists into the country over recent months. Indeed, Washington officials have effectively condoned such barbarities by their studied silence. Rice has even made statements, suggesting that more such atrocities will follow until the Syrian president does what her government demands and surrenders office. In mafia terminology, it’s called “making an offer he can’t refuse.”

The “terror” that Washington and other Western governments have promoted as the defining existential threat to democratic civilization over the past 10 years, has suddenly and seamlessly morphed into “war with terror” when it comes to Syria. And Western media that are intoxicated with hubris over supposed “free, independent thinking” do not even raise a timid question about this glaring contradiction. Indeed, these organs compound their intellectual bankruptcy with moral bankruptcy by concealing their government’s outrageous duplicity. However, for those with eyes, when it comes to Syria, the mask of Western pretence at defending international law and human rights has now been ripped off. The face revealed is a grotesque, salivating monster, whose motives are evidently selfish elite power and domination in the strategic Middle East region. And this objective is to be achieved by any means necessary --foremost by the collusion with bloodthirsty killers. In asserting their geopolitical objective over Syria, the Western governments are openly deploying terrorists and killers who supposedly were the reason, why Western governments spent trillions of dollars fighting foreign wars, invading and occupying sovereign countries, destroying millions of innocent lives, incarcerating and torturing thousands, and turning over democratic societies into draconian police states.

US President Barack Obama has time and again lauded American military veterans for their sacrifices in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 4,500 US forces were killed in Iraq, thousands more maimed and psychologically destroyed, with record numbers committing suicide once back home in Civvy Street. In Afghanistan, the death toll continues to rise --with a spate of ‘green on blue’ attacks, in which Afghan security personnel turn their guns on American troops. How must the families in the Iraqi city of Haditha feel where, in 2005, US marines shot dead 25 inhabitants, including women and children? --Just one of countless other such massacres and war crimes. Why were they killed in the putative “war on terror” that has now become a US “war with terror”? Or how about the family of the 14-year-old Iraqi girl, who was gang-raped by an American platoon, which then butchered her broken body to cover up their crime? Or the families in Iraq’s Fallujah city, whose loved ones where incinerated with the Pentagon white phosphorus bombs during 2004-2005? What was that holocaust all about in the pursuit of a supposed war against terrorists, the same terrorists, who are now armed, trained, and directed by Washington, London, and Paris to overthrow the legal government of Syria? Or how about the thousands of unnamed villagers, killed in remote areas of Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia in continuing American drone attacks?

Syrian regime must be smashed fast.” He also called for Assad’s death. Elsewhere, it is reported that Qatar, the West’s Arab ally in the sabotage of Syria, has resorted to bribery to destabilize the government in Damascus. Apparently, the Al Thani royal rulers of the Persian Gulf emirate offered USD 1 million to the Syrian ambassador in Mauritania to defect, thereby attempting to tarnish Assad’s government. The Syrian Ambassador, targeted by the honey-trap, Hamad Albni, denounced the bribe as “blatant interference” in his country’s affairs. It was just the latest in a barrage of dirty tricks that Qatar and the royal rulers of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have engaged in against Syria, including bribing the nation’s Army ranks to dessert, fabricating news stories on Arab media channels, Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, and jamming the satellite signals for the Syrian national broadcaster.

ster. The latter is a war crime, but don’t expect the Western crime bosses in office to bat an eyelid over that. This is on top of these billionaire rulers funneling USD 100 million from their own impoverished, downtrodden countries to pay for American and Israeli weapons and explosives that are being used by the Western terrorist army to kill and maim women and children across Syria. Meanwhile, Oxbridge-educated British Foreign Secretary William Hague announces with his ever-so-polite plumy accent that “Her Majesty’s” government is to supply an extra USD eight million to Syria. Not to help refugees or victims of Western-orchestrated violence, but to help the terrorists escalate their campaign of tearing that country.

apart and no doubt creating more refugees. Clinton, Fabius, Hague and their royal Arab friends may dress in fine clothes, speak with polished accents, and have manicured, scented hands. But make no mistake. They may not pull the triggers, slit throats, or switch the detonators. That’s for the goons on the ground to do and to keep the blood from appearing on those scented, lily-white hands of their bosses. In the Orwellian world of Western governments, these politicians are called “Foreign Ministers.” In the world of normative reasoning and language, they are known simply as “Ministers of Terrorism.” Finian Cunningham is a frequent contributor to Global Research.

I will think of Syria after attack on the opposite of proximal Turkey via Aleppo in the north and the south of France troops, the EU, NATO attack by U.S. / Israel, Syria in the second week of November, with air force and naval vessels. Israel will move with troops via the Golan to Damascus, then to use a proximal maneuver as a copy and follow in the attack on Iran.  Do not forget the wine message from Interfax in context Russian naval base of Tartus. -
The aspect in the context of Hezbollah, the Lebanon - North, the border of Gaza / Rafah to Egypt is not without value. Here are the weak point of the Israeli army 's defense ?  In the north, Hezbollah is firing rockets 60.000.
In Gaza, many Muslims are will attack Israel via Egypt/Rafah. No one knows the consequence of what it means to attack the U.S. / Israel and Iran and NATO .  China will never allow a lot of troops on its western boundary.
Nor should we forget the invitation of President Assad in the context of China in recent days .  China already knew from Syria's exclusion from the OIC ?
Two weeks ago, China has already sent two frigates into the Mediterranean via the Suez . 1 week later the UK and France before making maneuvers Cyprus -Turkey- Italy!
